Worongary State School was established in 1993 to service the communities of Worongary, Carrara and Boonooroo. The area was used back in the second world war as an aerodrome to transport supplies to the Canungra base. The name Worongary is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning “the vine that climbs” and this vine is featured on our school emblem which bears the motto ‘Strength through wisdom’.
The colours of the Worongary uniform were taken from the Palm Meadows Cup which was attended by Greg Norman, the touring pro at the time. The staff were decked out in Maroon, Green and White which appealed to the people that established the school. This was then taken and designed by our first P&C and foundation Principal.
Our school has a very strong focus in the 3 critical areas of academic performance, sporting development and cultural experience. We believe experience and success in each of these areas ensures that students leave Worongary with the necessary skills to become life- long learners and active citizens in our modern society.
